Mummy MOT® postnatal assessment and osteopathic treatment

Whether you had your baby six weeks ago or six years ago, your body deserves a proper check-up.

Pregnancy and birth ask a lot of your body. Maïté offers dedicated postnatal assessments to look at how your posture, core, abdominal muscles and pelvic floor are recovering and working, after a vaginal or caesarean birth.

Osteopathy may help relieve the stresses and strains on your body during pregnancy and after birth. You'll leave with a clear picture of where you are and practical exercises tailored to you, so you can get back to lifting, bending and carrying your little one with confidence.

Your appointment includes

  • A full postural screening

  • A pelvic floor muscle assessment, including an internal examination

  • An abdominal check for how your tummy muscles are working

  • A conversation about how you're feeling day to day, including any bladder, bowel or sexual health concerns

  • Practical exercise advice tailored to you

Osteopaths are trained to screen for medical conditions. If anything needs attention from another professional, such as your GP or a pelvic health physiotherapist, Maïté will tell you and advise on next steps.

Your comfort comes first

We know the idea of a pelvic floor assessment can feel daunting, and that's completely understandable. Everything is explained before we begin, and nothing happens without your consent. The internal assessment is only carried out if you're happy to go ahead, and you can pause, ask questions or stop at any point. If you'd rather not have an internal examination, just say so and we'll talk through the best way forward. You're also welcome to have a friend, partner or chaperone with you.

Why Maïté?

Maïté is a licensed Mummy MOT® practitioner, trained by leading pelvic health physiotherapists Maria Elliott and Hannah Poulton. Her focus is helping you return to full, functional movement, because life as a mum means lifting, bending and carrying every day.

Pregnancy/Antenatal osteopathy

Gentle, supportive care for your changing body

Pregnancy is a time of incredible change. Your ligaments soften, your weight increases and your posture adapts, which can put extra pressure on joints throughout the body, including the spine and pelvis. This can lead to general aches and pains, including back and joint pain.

Osteopathic care is suitable at any stage of pregnancy, and it may help relieve the stresses and strains on your body. Osteopathy could also help with sciatica and muscle tension.

What to expect at your appointment

  • A thorough conversation. Maïté takes a full case history to understand how you're feeling, where you're uncomfortable and what you need from your care.

  • Gentle hands-on treatment. Techniques may include massage, articulation (gentle joint movement) and stretching to ease tension and improve mobility.

  • Practical advice. You'll leave with simple guidance on posture, movement and self-care to support you through the rest of your pregnancy.

Every treatment is adapted to your stage of pregnancy, your comfort and your safety. If anything needs attention from another professional, such as your GP or midwife, Maïté will tell you. If you have questions before booking, or aren't sure whether osteopathy is right for you, just get in touch.

After your baby arrives, Maïté also offers postnatal assessments to check how your core, abdominals and pelvic floor are recovering. Find out more about the Mummy MOT®.

C-section & abdominal scar therapy

Hands-on care for your scar and the area around it

Appointments are available from around 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. Whether your surgery was recent or years ago, you're welcome to get in touch.

Scar therapy uses gentle, hands-on soft tissue techniques on the scar and the surrounding area. Maïté will assess how the area looks, moves and feels, and take your wider history into account, including any general aches and pains such as back or joint pain. Sessions are designed to help you feel more comfortable moving in everyday life, and they can also be a chance to relax and focus on yourself.

What to expect at your appointment

  • A thorough conversation. Maïté takes a full history, including your birth and surgery, and talks through what you'd like from your care.

  • Assessment. She looks at your scar and how the surrounding tissues and your posture are moving.

  • Gentle hands-on work. Soft tissue techniques are used on the scar and surrounding area, adapted to what feels comfortable for you.

  • Practical advice. You'll leave with movement guidance and simple exercises to use at home.

Everything is explained before we begin and nothing happens without your consent. You're welcome to have a friend, partner or chaperone with you. Osteopaths are trained to screen for medical conditions. If you have concerns about how your wound has healed, or notice anything that needs medical attention, such as redness, discharge or increasing pain, please contact your GP or midwife, and Maïté will advise you if she thinks you should.
